
Nedra Piper

Nedra Lois Piper was the second daughter born to her parents, verlon and Vera Wilson on February 11, 1933 in Chicago, IL. Her parens and eldest sister, Gloria Hurst preceded her in death.
She received her education in the Chicago Public School system attending Lucy Flower High School.
Nedra confessed her faith in Christ at an early age at Greater St. John A.M.E. Church wheere she was a member of the Usher Board, May Circle and participated in many ministries. She remained a faithful member until her illness made it difficult for her to attend service.
Through a mutual friend and her sister, she met the the love of her life, Melvin Jerome Piper, Sr. They were married on January 6, 1965 where they became a loving blended family of two daughters and two sons, Barbara, Nedra (lovingly known as Puddin), Melvin Jr. and Lionel.
Nedra was a dedicated worker with the United States Post Office for a number of years until her retirement in 1988.
Retirement was good to Melvin and Nedra. As empty nesters, they enjoyed life to the fullest, attending events, traveling with family and friends to countries such as Egypt, Ghana, Spain, China, to name a few. She joined a dance troupe named the Proscenum Players, they traveled all over the city performing and entertaining for senior citizen audiences. She also volunteered at the Chicago Lighthouse for the blind by reading to the clients. She also loved puzzles of all kind from crosswords to Sudoku.
Nedra made her transiti on October 9, 2023, reunited with her loving husband Melvin of 54 years, daughters, Nedra and Barbara and son, Melvin Jr.
She leaves to cherish her loving and precious memory, son Lionel H. Piper; sister, Vera Mann; grandchildren, Phillip Green, John Green, Marguerite Piper, and Gina Gabrielle Garret; ten great grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews and beloved cousins.
